The lone wolf joins a pack now and again, only to be driven off. He seeks his own way, his own path to find where life takes him.
That was the journey of Santiago or more commonly just Tiago, wanderer and itinerant fighter crossing through the Northern Continent of Pern. But it was not always this way, his story truly began with Clan Dimitru, a group of traveling traders that operated out of the Nerat Penninsula. Life was good growing up with many siblings and cousins, till he was ten turns old when the caravan was attacked by holdless mauraders. Santi was left for dead, found later by would be rescuers from Nerat Hold and told he was the only survivor. He was taken in by the Hold guards as an apprentice/foundling, where he trained and learned to defend himself in ways that might have been useful if his family were still alive. As he approached manhood, he left the Hold and became a freelance sword for hire guarding other trading caravans all across the Northern Continent.
By chance, a stop at a Gather at Fort Hold borught some interesting faces and experiences into his life. After meeting some people from Ista Weyr, Santi(now known as Tig) journeys there and hires on as a Weyrguard. There he meets Rhikiad, a kleptomaniac teen from Telgar with whom he becomes quite attached while forming a rather turbulent association with the bronzerider Q'luin.
Months pass and Ista's new cook Tiarla turns out to be a member of Tiago's long lost family. Together they journeyed to Fort Hold where her parents had settled after the devestation of the rest of their clan, reuniting the orphan with the rest of his surviving family. Their adventures afterwards took them down into the Southern continent, encounters with pirates, wildlife, and more close calls than they ever imagined, they finally returned to Ista Weyr for good.
A clutch is laid at Ista, Tiago was not searched given his age at the time, but managed to stay close to his new family and friends who were candidates, such as Rhikiad for whom he had become rather obsessed with. He stood guard over the ground entrance during the Hatching while watching his cousin Tia impress. To everyone's surprise, one large bronze dragonet made a beeline straight for the exit and stopped right in front of the guardsman, impressing him. Renamed S'tao, the lone wolf is no longer alone.
Weyrlinghood sped by quickly, ties to his clutchmates growing strong as they worked together to join the fighting ranks of the Weyr. His obsession with Rhik (now Rh'iad) had only strengthened and upon graduation, the two of them chose to be weyrmates and indeed S'tao learned to confess his love as well.
Months pass and Sephiroth proves himself to be quite the virile bronze, joining several mating flights across Pern. Then came an accident during Fall which claimed the life of Ista's Weyrleader N'lon, leaving the Weyr in some chaos for weeks till the next queen rose. Despite the fact that he was barely out of weyrlinghood, Sephiroth caught senior queen Naomith at the next mating flight. S'tao becomes the leader of the pack. ;) It is rumored that Sr. Weyrwoman Corana's second child, a girl named Caytilin may actually be his.
As the turns pass, S'tao proved himself to be a decent if not a bit unusual Weyrleader with a strong sense of confidence and command, putting his experience as a guard to good use. Sephiroth proves time and time again that he is indeed his father's son, catching many a green and gold in flight. Even a chance visit to Fort Weyr resulted in a clutch with Hestiath while her weyrwoman Imogen presented S'tao with a daughter Isthia.
Several turns later, S'tao discovered yet another branch of his family in Nerat, two more cousins in the form of Gwynne and Ildenin who came to reside at Ista Weyr as well. They too Impressed and Wyn became the new Sr. Weyrwoman after Corana took ill and retired to Southern to recover, leaving Caytilin in her father's auspices.
In the thirteenth turn of the 10th Pass, Sephiroth lost the mating flight with Isyth, resulting in S'tao's retirement as Weyrleader after ten turns of service. Where this puts him now is yet to be seen, though there is definitely more 'beach time' planned with Rh'iad.
S'tao has continued on as the Wingleader of the Windjammer wing with his cousin Tia as his second. He was gravely injured during another tragic Threadfall over his home turf of Nerat, due to unforseen miscommunications resulting from inexperienced errors made by the new Weyrleader Q'luin. It took months of recovery, but Tig has continued to soldier on.

Apollyon, who goes often by the name of Pol, is the firstborn son of ex-Weyrleader N'lon and Headwoman Kezia. On his eleventh Turn Pol is a disorderly child who only deeply loves his mother and tolerates his younger sister Gehenna. All three reside at Ista Hold's docks but Pol is (too) often found at the Weyr when the fishermen transport their catches. His hobbies include tormenting girls, aggrevating firelizards, and telling everyone how he'll be Weyrleader someday. Oh, and Lord Sterling promoted him to Ista Hold messenger so if you haven't received that message from Aunt Kay or your dad… then you probably won't.

The majority of information I prefer people learning via RP, but some things could be known through gossip, so it is that which I post below.
Qiluin grew up son of both Weyrwoman and Weyrleader of Igen Weyr. He spent most every waking and sleeping moment with his mother who was the senior dragonhealer as well. This is how a man so young could become a dragonhealer, and a damn good one, at such an early age.
But one needs a dragon for full rank, and after standing two times at Igen with disastrous failure, he and his twin sister Quorra relocated to Ista Weyr. Here he met with success and impressed bronze Zhoreth. Life was good until his mother died, and this sorrowful information was delivered to him by Lord Sterling of Ista Hold who then announced that /he/ was actually Quorra and Q’luin’s father. This was the start of a strange rocky relationship between father and son.

Since then Q’luin rose in the ranks to become a senior dragonhealer, and now he tends to not only Ista’s dragon infirmary, but Igen’s as well after the two ranking dragonhealers of the desert weyr were put out of commission (one died).
Zhoreth has fathered a clutch with queen Lilyth, amounting to a hefty 40 eggs. The resulting dragonets have grown and gone on to become protectors of Pern.

Q'luin has two tattoos by the ink artist Rh'iad. One on his back, dreamed up by the artist and one on his face of his own design.
The first was a thoughtful sentiment to help keep the displaced desert born man always in touch with his roots. It is a tattoo of the Igen sun that will now always be at his back.

Stylized ink etches a tribal territory on the bronzed visage to encircle one of his smoldering coal eyes.

He has had 6 children:

Qihael, his oldest son was born after Q’luin left Igen and he didn’t know of his existence until sometime later. An ironic parallel to his own father. The boy’s mother is Haelah, who is a beautiful desert born woman that the bronzerider still has connections to when in Igen. The name is obviously a mix of both parents.
Then comes Qalon, named for part Q’luin and part his secret (or not so secret) hero N’lon, deceased former Weyrleader of Ista Weyr and rider of Rhyolith. The mother was then weyrling Corana, now Weyrwoman of Ista Weyr. She too is beautiful.
After came Qylia and Qisanti, a set of twins to mimic Quorra and Q’luin, named for Shaylora (Qi’s mother), Q’luin, Tia, and strangely enough (not Q’luin’s choice), Santiago, also known as S’tao, present Weyrleader of Ista Weyr and cousin to Tia, their beautiful mother. Notice the trends?
Then there would be Qilura, which is a combination of mother and father, most obviously. She was the result of a won greenflight of Glissiereth and Velura.
Qiterin is the bronzerider’s newest pride. Conceived from a goldflight that gave life to probably one of the least volatile relationships Q’luin has ever had with the mothers of his children. Soteria’s sweetness is the culprit.

Soteria was born and raised in Southern Weyr, one of many weyr children with rather anonymous parantage, though chances are they were one of the many riders who've taken residency there or even retired there from Ista. She has garnered a reputation as a shy child, a little eccentric and odd, though not without some sense of responsibility. Primarily she has turned fashion and taste into her outlet for rebellion, often dressing in dark or exotic colors with wild hairdos, not to mention tending towards lurking around at night and avoiding too much sun. As the heat in Southern makes life in the evenings far more bearable than during the day, this was not overly disturbing behavior. Like most weyr children, she took on chores where and whenever needed, learning various skills useful to those living down in Southern, with a particular interest in weaving and sewing, though never formally apprenticed to the Weavercraft.
By chance sometime after her eighteenth turn, a newly retired queen at Southern rose again to everyone's surprise, resulting in a small clutch laid in the Sands but astonishingly also including a queen egg. All available youngsters residing at the Weyr were presented at the Hatching. The golden dragonet who hatched was as exotically patterned as a queen could get and so closely matched Soteria in looks that there was little surprise that Lilyth Impressed her. The next few turns were spent in training with the rest of the clutch till they were old enough to go North and join the forces at Ista Weyr.
Lilyth's first maiden flight and resulting clutch were laid in Southern, not a large one but not unusual for a young queen. However more recently, her second flight was at Ista Weyr and it was Q'luin's Zhoreth who caught her, resulting in a clutch of forty eggs. As to a relationship with the bronzerider, much yet remains to be seen, though it appears that the two of them have gotten along rather well and have been seen speaking comfortably together while watching over the eggs on the sands.
The flight resulted in more than just a clutch, Soteria also birthed a son named Qiterin. It was a few turns later however, that Southern Weyr required their former junior back and Soteria returned to her original home as a temporary transfer. She chose to foster her son at Ista however, so that the boy could stay with his many half-siblings and father as well.
Born and raised at Southern Weyr, Yandra showed many promises in her young life. A weyrbrat, unsure of her parentage, she became favoured for running errands and messages, and began basic training under the Weyrharper, until she was old enough to make her own decisions.
Shortly after that fateful Turnday that she became independant, Yandra set out to explore Pern, traveling from here to there and all over the place, including a couple days at Boll, Fort Hold, and finally ended up at Ista Weyr to deliver a message. Liking the people she met, and the land surrounding, Yandra approached the staff, and set roots as a Messenger for the Weyr.
The very next day, a dragon of the weyr had other plans, and searched Yandra to Stand for the clutch that would turn out to be the last, for the weyrwoman of the time: Kabrielle.
The first Search, the first she stood, Yandra Impressed Blue Allegrith.

Telgari born, Rhikiad is a holder boy. His youth (up until about a turn and a half ago) is pretty much well something that the teen would rather forget, and probably won't bring it up at all. Bastard born, used by a manipulative mother to try to get herself a man, and discarded when it didn't work out, Rhikiad became just another nursery brat but overshadowed with the stigma of a mother that could care less and was known for being a bit of a manipulative tramp. If you put that with the teen's case of ADD and a touch of innocent kleptomania, he was an easy target for a lot of abuse. There are stories here that might never see the light of day.
At about fourteen turns of age, one of the Hold's male blooded took an interest in the easily manipulated teen that wasn't at all innocent. When they were discovered, Rhikiad was discarded once again. To avoid any embarrassments, he was taken out of Telgar lands and told not to return. He doesn't plan to, ever.
And so began his life at Ista Weyr. After having taken up with a trading caravan, and then a ship, he eventually ended up at the Weyr on a whim and chance. Having had no experience and any real intensive education concerning dragons or Weyrs, it was a fascinating experience for the teen. Since coming to the Weyr he's rode on dragons, betweened, watched flights, been to a Fort gather, learned to read and write, listened to stories of hurt and heartache, swum in an ocean, got lost in a jungle, found the joy of baked spiderclaws, became the local canine keeper, was lusted after, impressed a couple of firelizards, gave people tattoos, tried to build a sandhold in the hatching caverns, managed to get the highest bid for his bod during an auction, fell in love, fell under a runner, tried to rescue people from pirates, got caught in a snowstorm (at Fort), became marooned, was loved in return, and then a candidate.
Despite his own insistence at his inadequacy, Rhikiad stood upon those sands on the day of the hatching and impressed his own green lifemate, Atsuth. From that point on, the teen embarked upon a new chapter in his life, filled with a growing confidence and continues to be built upon to this day. So linked with his lifemate as he is with an amazingly close bonding, one's feelings are hard to be discerned from the other. If one is hungry, so is the other. If one is angry, so is the other.
During the midst of that weyrlinghood and soon after, Rh'iad came to understand what true love is, and has found it in his weyrmate, S'tao. He is still exploring all of the intricacies of weyrlife, life with loves, and just life in all of its splendor with the freedom of exploration.

Coming soon!
Her earliest memories are of being a wild child amidst a clan of traders that operated out of the Nerat Peninsula. When she was only five, a group of holdless bandits wiped out nearly every member of Clan Dimitru. Her parents managed to escape with her in tow, believing every last relative that had been part of their trading family was dead.
Years later, they found themselves in the Fort Area, managing a messenger station that Tia became a part of as soon as she was old enough and had grown in enough stamina to do the cross-continent travel that was required of a messenger. It was her then-misfortune that she sustained an injury due to needlethorn that put her out of commission for some time, and she chose a change of atmosphere in which to recouperate and rebuild; Ista Weyr.
Change is something she definitely found, as she found herself waylaid by bronzerider Q'luin only months into her residency after Zhoreth lost a flight. Needless to say, nine months later the twins Qylia and Qisanti arrived in the world. But it was during that pregnancy that she discovered Tiago. Or, as he had been known to her a lifetime ago, cousin Santiago whom they often called Santi. Finding that she still had family alive was a blessing that she clung to, and Rhikiad would also find himself considered a part of her extended family as she spent more time in their company.
The next hatching seemed to ensure they would all remain close as all three of them impressed; her lifemate Kyraceth has had what some would call a naughty influence on her. But she can't have turned out too badly, since she proudly carries the knot of Weyrsecond, appointed by S'tao to be his right hand gal in running Ista Weyr.

Corana was born at Southern Boll Hold, daughter of a longtime resident and kitchen worker Diurna. Her father was a seacrafter that perished at sea, and she was not fortunate enough to have any siblings. The girl had a happy yet uneventful childhood, mostly helping in the kitchens with her mother. For a while at a young age her mother pushed her toward becoming a Weaver Apprentice, one of the more prominent crafts that Southern Boll plays host to, but Corana wasn't skilled enough nor dutiful enough in her lessons, and wasn't taken in by the Hall. So, she remained in the kitchens, managing to get her work done without being particularly adept at most of the things she was tasked with.
Early on in life, Corana played on Boll's beaches and swam in her spare time, and eventually this would become one of her favorite pastimes, until she began to notice boys, that is. The one that stood out for her was a young man named Victor, who at the time was quite a bit older than she was. As it happens, the boys never quite noticed her back, being tall and skinny and a very late bloomer, it seems. Victor was fond of a young lady named Kezia, who out of petty jealous rivalry Corana despised. Later, after Victor died in a prizefight, Corana's anger at Kezia increased rather than subsided, and she carried that bitterness with her well into her adult years.
Corana was around seventeen turns when she was Searched by N'lon and his brown Rhyolith for Ista Weyr. Soon after, now a Candidate, she discovered that her childhood rival Kezia was Headwoman of Ista, and Corana made it her personal quest to give her trouble whenever she got the opportunity. There were plenty of rules the young woman eventually broke during her Candidacy, not the least of which being fraternizing with another then-Candidate named Qiluin. But when Niliath's clutch hatched, a queen named Naomith found Corana, thus setting in motion a particularly tumultuous career as goldrider.
Weyrlinghood seemed to be Corana's biggest obstacle, wherein she constantly butted heads with the Weyrlingmaster, M'cay. It was also the source of Corana's first child, conceived before she Impressed and unknown at the time due to her naiveté. It was fortunate that the pregnancy didn't have an averse affect on her still-growing dragon, though it most certainly added to her troubles and set her back in classes. It was because of this that Corana didn't get to graduate with the rest of her Weyrling class.
It was well before Naomith's maiden flight that the Senior Queen, Niliath and her rider Kabrielle, died tragically during a flight /between/. As Ista's only junior at the time, this left Corana the eventual recipient of the big knot, and in the time between that event and her queen's first rising Corana was tutored almost constantly in her free time. Naomith rose to be caught by brown Rhyolith, thusly making N'lon the Weyrleader and his brown the sire of 25 eggs to later be lain on Ista's sands.
Much to the Weyr's sorrow, Threadfall would later claim the life of their long-respected Weyrleader N'lon, and Naomith's next flight would see S'tao and his bronze Sephiroth, Impressees from her last clutch, as the new leaders of Ista. Despite their lack of intimate relationship, it's been no secret that Corana thinks highly of him in this position, and rarely comes into conflict with the way he rules the Weyr. Not long after the flight another child was born, a daughter this time, whose parentage is unknown but at least narrowed down between her old flame, Q'luin, the new Weyrleader, and the Weyrlingmaster, M'cay.

The nephew of Lord Sterling, Essiach was raised at Ista Hold along with his sister Lisyana and a few other siblings. His parents, Yalanda and Aleister, fostered him off to Tillek's Master Sea Hold when he was about ten Turns old (funny how they didn't foster Lisyana off. Can you say favoritism?), and like a true Istan he took to the Craft and became an able-bodied apprentice not long after. Tillek became his second home, and the ocean his first love.
When he was promoted to Senior Apprentice, he was posted back to Ista Hold. After seven Turns he was finally reunited with his home Hold but it was to be a short-lived stay. Even still, he managed to run into an old flame, Ona - or rather Iona, goldrider up at Fort. But as always, their time together was spent one half arguing and the other half making up.
Not long after settling back into Ista Hold, Lilyth rose and was caught by Q'luin's Zhoreth, and among those searched from the Hold were little sister Lisyana and her friend Jorlen, who Essiach believed to have less than noble intentions with his sister (and still does). Thankfully, good ol' cousin Q'luin provided a solution to the problem of poor, little innocent Lisyana being at the Weyr unsupervised, and dubbed Essiach a co-Candidate alongside her and Jorlen.
On Hatching Day, Essiach Impressed Desert Labyrinth Brown Shaarth, becoming E'siac. Where E'siac was young and energetic, Shaarth was an old soul who preferred to sunbathe and contemplate life and existence than join his rowdy clutchsiblings. While Shaarth didn't tend to see eye to eye with his peers he quickly made a place for himself amongst the old, aging, gossip-mongering dragons - and it was that elderly, sensible (*snort*) influence that slowly began to chip away at E'siac's wild streak (and possibly his sanity). And if Shaarth wasn't enough to drive Ess to insanity, the sporatic visits from Iona were certainly something wearing down his sensibility.
Shortly before graduating from Weyrlinghood, E'siac's father was lost at sea. Remnants of his ship washed up on Southern's shores but the body of Lord Sterling's brother was never found. A search for him was called not long after the shipwreck was spotted but to no avail. To add salt to a gaping wound in his family life, it came out that Lisyana was actually Sterling's daughter resulting from an affair with E'siac's mother.
Less and less time was spent with family after that, avoiding the associated feelings and discomfort surrounding his relatives. A few short Turns passed, Shaarth grew, marks were blown on countless bets, many marks more were made on Shaarth's well-informed investments, and eventually a romantic relationship developed between the brownrider and Assistant Weyrleader Tia. The two make an interesting couple, having so many bad habits in common (drinking, gambling, bickering), but E'siac survived the unpredictable moods of the greenrider long enough to have a baby boy, Esrail.
B'ane and his bronze Aboleoth are new faces around the Weyr, only technically. They come nearly 100 Turns from the future after a Betweening incident that brought them indeed to their home Weyr, but not in the same timeline. A former Weyrleader and from a Thread-free period, B'ane and his life-mate acquired new purpose in what is now a Pass. Critical of current young leaders, the bronzerider accepts the orders he's given but toes the line of insubordination. While Weyrleader, B'ane temporarily lost his sight in a Fall. Still sensitive, his eyes required strongly tinted goggles in the sun which B'ane is seldom without.
Aboleoth remains largely unphased by the alterations, finding he can go back to freely fighting Thread and flying greens all the same.
Name: | Ai'den (Baiden) |
Title: | Ista Weyr Weyrling |
Dragon: | Bronze Kaijuth |
Father: | Baycoulf |
Mother: | Rashida |
History: |
Baiden is the first born and only son of Baycoulf and Rashida, minor holders of a small estate connected to Bitra, and from day one the rules of law and life were drilled into the boy. From a tiny infant alone in his cradle, to a stout young lad with a quarter staff in hand, he has been trained by his stern, often overbearing father, to be strong, and independent. To be a hunter, a fighter, and a survivalist. His father’s favored phrase as he beat the wits out of his son, through combat or just a good pummeling, was, “The world’s hard, boy, but I’ll make you harder.” It was a difficult lesson, but one well learned. One believed in it’s entirety, because there were no other opinions in his life to the contrary.
Aside from the training he received from those tutors selected by his father, Baiden learned more subtle arts from his quiet, gentle, but far from meek mother. He learned the mending of his clothes, the selection of special plants and herbs that could be used for cooking, or those with more toxic applications. He learned first aid and how to care for minor ailments. He learned that sometimes, even in such a harsh world, one could occasionally smile and get away with it.
Duty and moral fiber were honed like a finely sharpened blade within the boy, dug deep into his character. He didn’t play like other boys, he learned to serve the ‘greater good’ of his family’s small home. He learned sword play and hand to hand combat, and his teenage years were spent in focus and discipline. He learned politics, and how to wedge himself into the good favors of those with stronger alliances and greater holdings.
Baiden never questioned his father’s teaching, or his father’s resolve. He grew into a man Baycoulf could be proud of. Strong, stoic, and honorable.. and merciless. Without humour. Without tenderness. One can wonder if Baiden remembers the lessons his mother, now gone, once taught him about smiling.
To forge connections outside of his homestead, Baiden has recently traveled to a distant Weyr, Ista, and taken up life in the only nitch he truly fits: as a guard.
Description: |
Around twenty or so turns old, this young man is of average height, well-built, but not overly bulky. Likewise, there is nothing wiry about him, his muscles having filled out well during his adolescent years. His hair is kept short cropped, and is a brown that appears nearly black with sandy tips in dark lighting, and a lighter, cream-brown under the sunlight. His eyes are nearly identical in hue to his hair. His nose is fairly large, and looks just a tad bit naturally crooked. His jaw line is nicely squared with a slightly cleft, beardless chin. His frame is square, with broad shoulders and a strong-seeming center of gravity, giving his movements balance and sharp focus. He can be considered handsome a rough, rugged way.

Niles is one of many grandsons belonging to Lord Keroon Sea Hold and a member of the Ashcroft family traders. That pattern, has since changed with the onset of the 10th Pass and his mother's illness in recent turns. He does have siblings. Four of them in fact who are all female. Only Niles and Saari are fully related by blood. The youngest (Eliza, Alinne and Melisa) are half-blooded sisters between his stepfather, Tephan and their mother Dani.
Jamin succumbed to illness when Niles was only seven turns and his mother remarried some time after. Things between his new stepfather and himself became tense as he grew into his teen years. Never could the two see eye to eye in the past and present - a situation that only compounded itself. Where Niles would dote and watch out for his sisters and mother, the growing conflict between the two men caused no shortage of harsh conversations and expectations that would never come to fruition between them. For all of the dislike, Tephan never treated his children and wife poorly within the eyes of others.
As Niles reached his sixteenth year, his ability for trading and fending for himself became reasons for him to propose traveling ahead of the family to various locations. It was accepted under the guise of finding his own path. The reality was to get away from the expectations of his family - immediate and his extended, to include paternal aunts and uncles.
So when he found him himself at Ista Weyr, the intent was to make a different life for himself, and no longer bound by obligation of traveling with his family. Little did he know how that would change after spending a Turn or two, finding himself asked to stand for Isyth and Sephiroth's clutch. Not that he really expected to impress, but Einarth had other ideas. To say that man and hatching stared each other down would be exactly… right.

Prior to arriving at Ista, Jordan spent the earlier part of her childhood at Southern Hold, remaining there until her parents, both Journeymen Harpers, left the craft. Failing to be promoted, and unable to reconcile his differences with the Masters, Jordan's father decided a life in the craft was not for him. Her mother followed suit, and together the entire family moved to one of the smaller cotholds within Southern's territory.

After an accident claimed the lives of their parents, Jordan and her brother were uniformly adopted by an older couple within the cothold. Jordan was eight, and her brother was thirteen, far too young to lose such important people in their lives. Their loss served only to strengthen their bond. The pair were taught many things by the couple, such as what was necessary to survive away from the protection of the Hold. It was a hard life, but not an unpleasant one and Jordan has nothing but fond memories of her time at Southern. Indeed its left her with much to be thankful for.

Title: Retired Weyrwoman
Dragon: Gold Tajiath
Website: http://home.comcast.net/~abmdisney/katarra.htm (Opening page currently being updated but pics and logs and general Ista Weyr info a'plenty!)
Katarra's history is wrapped up in Ista Weyr thicker than a heavy fog on a fall morning. Her life from 16 to about 45 turns gave me many years of beloved playtime and dear friends, all laid out in meticulous detail on her personal website, which I'm tweaking to make available again. As often happens though, RL eventually over-ruled fantasy and Katarra dropped into the background, since then providing occasional lovely scenes with friends old and new. Here is a brief outline of Katarra in general and those wonderful years of lively activity:
The Beginning
Katarra grew up in a small hold west of Fort Weyr, spoiled and coddled as the youngest of five children and only daughter. When she demanded to go traveling her Father agreed on the rule that she return in one turn and settle down to an arranged marriage. She stopped first at Ista Weyr and made several life-long friends among the residents and incoming candidates. After the Hatching she moved on to Fort Hold, then Ista Hold and finally Ista Weyr collecting many memories and new friends along the way before finally returning home as promised - but not happy about it.
By then she'd lost some of her naivety but not her stubborn pride or shallow self-absorbtion. It made life interesting. When she found herself searched for a clutch at Ista Weyr her greatest fear was her Father's reaction. Indeed, he didn't take it well. But even sending several of her brothers to get her didn't work. When the hatching came and went without Katarra finding a match on the sands everyone assumed she'd finally go home, and truthfully, she stressed about what to do herself for a while. Finally she made the decision to stay on at the weyr and took on the role of Assistant Headwoman.
After a season of fun and mishaps she had grown more confident in her life at Ista Weyr and moved in with a bronzerider named C'shar. Searched for a second time she was anxious about repeating the devastation of before, but with the added support of her weyrmate, friends already impressed and new friends among the candidates she made it through all the mayhem to hatching day. On the sands that day she finally found her true soul mate in the fire-gilded golden frame of Tajiath.
The Middle
Weyrlinghood passed in a flurry of training and bonding wherein Katarra learned a whole lot about making room in her life for someone other than herself. Flirting with trouble, her relationship deepened with an old-flame-turned-greenrider named G'briel and by time she graduated the two were frequent lovers. Though they never became weyrmates it was one of those once in a lifetime type of loves and a daughter eventually came of it, whom they named Kabrielle.
Not long after graduation, Ista lost their Senior Weyrwoman and Katarra was thrown into the role of Senior herself, barely prepared and still wet under the wings. Through many ups and downs they managed to accord themselves well and Ista thrived. Many wonderful turns passed as Katarra loved and lived, raised a family and saw hundreds of Tajiath's offsring swell the ranks of the weyr. Eventually life took a turn for the tragic side, falling apart in a few short turns. Here is a rundown:
The End
— Katarra met and fell in love with Ivanic, who impressed a bronze and became I'van. Their relationship was the longest love of her life, the two weyrmating and living together up until I'van's death many turns later.
— Katarra gave birth to triplets Nicarran, Avarra, and Cinavi but lost Cinavi. Later she also bore another son, Kivvan.
— Kabrielle fell in love with R'kan and started her own family, raising several children and becoming Senior Weyrwoman herself before dying in a flight accident.
— After losing both I'van and Kabrielle, Katarra went into seclusion and suffered a breakdown, as well as having physical issues from one last miscarriage.
— Katarra, teenage Nicarran and infant Kivvan went on the time-traveling Backwhen Mission organized with Fort Weyr. While there Nicarran impressed brown Waroth and became N'ic. N'ic came back first and went to Fort Weyr. Growing up over ten turns Backwhen, Kivvan felt very disjointed from the rest of the family when they finally returned and he was now a teenager himself. There was much adjusting to do because the return was timed only a few turns after they left, skewing everyone's respective ages.
— Katarra and Avarra had a hideous fight over the whole question of going Backwhen in the first place and Avarra left Ista Weyr shortly after, becoming a Runner and living many dark turns before N'ic returned and helped pull her out of it. She eventually settled at Fort Weyr with N'ic and impressed green Kinaldeth.
Current
— Avarra and Katarra are working on mending fences, the addition of Avarra's twin sons, Qarran and Qhirrn, creating a new connection between mother and daughter.
— Kabrielle's son, L'ryl (a bluerider) made Katarra a great-grandmother! His daughter, Leryna, lives with him at Fort Weyr.
— Although Katarra recovered tremendously while away in the sunny, tropical locale of Backwhen she has never been quite the same, now prone to absent-mindedness, sudden swings in emotion and several physical ailments.

Description
Orinlatan, or Orin as he seems to prefer to be known, is growing taller every day and now stands a little over six foot and at least fills that out reasonably. He has a clean, angular frame toned by walking and running. His months of candidacy have started to broaden his shoulders and tighten his muscles, lending an increased sense of strength to his frame. His sandy brown hair has finally been trimmed to a reasonable length, out of his blue-green eyes, and cropped short in the back. Despite his best efforts, though, it stands up more than it lays flat.
The cuteness of youth is fading as his features take on a harder edge and a certain smooth curve through the angles of jaw and chin that mark him as nearing adulthood. His feet, when uncovered, are much darker in color than the rest of his skin, a testament to his childhood on Ista's beaches, and this is especially true the thick, calloused soles. But, like many of the older residents, he now at least tries to wear boots most of the time.
A single-looped tailless strand of white comprises the extent of his knot. He's a candidate, clearly.
Orin usually wears clothes that don't fit quite right, as is often the right of a weyrbrat to rummage through the bins of hand-me-downs and gently used clothing. None of it's horrid, really, but clearly not tailored for his frame. He usually wears little more than a tunic and trousers. The tunic is always of light cloth, breathable in Ista's usually hot environs. Further, his tunic is always brightly-colored, and sometimes multi-colored. Once people do notice him, they tend to wonder how they could have missed him with his choice in shirts. A talent, perhaps. His trousers are the exact opposite, durable, thicker fabric of dark, muted tones. Though he prefers black, greys and browns are also in regular evidence in his wardrobe.
Background
Orinlatan was born to a weyrfolk mother with no knowledge of who is father is other than that he's likely a rider. His lack of a definable father figure never really bothered the lad, though. He was far from the only one of his kind in Ista's lower caverns. As he grew, he quickly became one of those constant background elements. Rarely in trouble, rarely exemplary. Just there. He does his chores quickly and efficiently, but rarely with any true talent. And the same was true for his harper lessons. Outside of a reasonable grasp of numbers, he was just another kid.
At least until he met Q'luin and Wyn. Nothing will swell a fatherless boy's ego like seeming to gain a father and a second mother in one meeting. Not that his relationship with the bronze and gold rider was ever treated as normal by other members of the Weyr. His informal assistant-like position for Wyn aroused jealousy in some and amusement in others. E'siac even claimed that Wyn must have brainwashed the boy for him to be so loyal. Of course, E'siac /was/ the one to get Orin into his first brawl, so he doesn't really have much in the way of a stone to throw.
Q'luin really has become the father Orin never had, including him easily in his family as if the lad had always been a part. It seemed like no time before Orin was calling him 'Da,' though their relationship didn't really cement until after Q'luin's bronze Zhoreth caught Isyth, making him Weyrleader. Orin stood by Q'luin in his adaptive period, defending him as necessary and it was a month or so into his Weyrleadership that Q'luin offered Orin the official position as his assistant. Only once has Orin ever doubted his respect and even love for the older bronzerider, but he doesn't often speak of it. And Ai'den's blue didn't scratch him up or anything.
On the eve of his sixteeth turn, his world took another unexpected turn in the shape of a gold-flecked bronze firelizard who he promptly named Trin and whose appearance rapidly sated his jealousy over Darius' impression of the green Calypso a few days before. This fortuitous event led to meeting Xavena, who was /not/ fortuitous, really, but it's always good for a lad to be reminded of what he doesn't like in people's behavior, and Xavena captured that to a T. She also led to a frank conversation between himself and Jeneeva, the J'twin many have perceived to be his girlfriend, in which they agreed that neither of them were looking for a relationship. Just friends then.
He was completely unprepared for what happened when Fort's latest class of Weyrlings was lined up for graduation, though. Fort's Weyrlingmaster and Weyrleader had barely finished congratulating the new riders on their jobs well done when a wing appeared. It wasn't wearing the colors of any Weyr. Orin still doesn't know who it was but clearly they must have been bad somehow. The reeked of firestone like they'd just flown fall and made for the attack. Orin nearly lost Darius in the ensuing panic, but both brothers were spirited away by Fort's greenrider E'li before any harm could befall them. The stress of the event lead to Orin's first drunken bender. Followed closely by Orin's first hangover.
Time passed as it always does, Orin growing closer to his brother as they worked together on projects and to his surrogate father and brother as well. It seemed that with each new interaction. Each new person he met, he became more outgoing. More confident. And it wasn't just Q'luin's confidence in him, though that surely gave him the push he needed to grow in himself, but with each success, he himself became better. A better brother. A better friend. A better leader. Though it became increasingly hard for him to step back and let others lead, another lesson he was forced to learn the hard way through Darius.
It surprised few if any when he and Jen took the step to make their relationship official, if still subtle and unannounced due to her rank. A weyrbrat can do much so long as hey don't dishonor the Weyr. An apprentice, though, can lose everything, and neither of them wanted that. In that same time, Darius grew closer to the dolphincrafter Taelya. Despite her strong preference for women, it wasn't long before the boy, wounded by another woman, seemed to seek her out and Orin was always glad to encourage it.
As Isyth's clutch hardened, Orin worked harder and harder to keep Q'luin appraised of things about the Weyr as was his duty while the bronzerider often sat with goldrider and clutch. He worked to keep fit with Darius and Jen, harder than one might expect with the latter as their relationship phased into the physical. Then one night, seemingly out of the blue, Q'luin offered Orin a knot. Not just any knot. The knot. White and restraining, but full of opportunity.
Having to be apart from Jen was harder than he'd imagined, but candidacy was hard work. Lessons, chores, and even more exercise than he could have imagined. Training to be a leader indeed. The time passed both ever so slowly and very, very quickly and in mere months he was on those hot sands beside Darius, Jacey, and several other friends along the way. The dragons hummed, the eggs hatched, and all three were left as dragons of all colors took their pick of nearly double the candidates as there were eggs.
It's hard to say whether Q'luin or Orin was more disappointed in his failure to attract one of Zhoreth's brood. What is certain is that when the lad emerged from the shared weyr much later, the white knot was still plainly in evidence.

Golden Eagle Bronze Trin
Description: Possessing a certain noble carriage, this bronze firelizard also tends to puff out a broad chest and arch his wings with a confident knowledge of his own superiority. Headknobs and tapered snout are a gleaming gold that contrasts against the burnished bronze of his hide, matching feather markings running throughout his body, each pattern edged with more gild. The wings are broad, wide sweeping capes, powerful pinons that seem tireless and majestic. His haunches are sleek and trim, each leg also brightening into gold and ending in sharp tipped talons that seem perfect for the snatching of prey.
Egg: Choisya Shrub Egg
Egg Desc: The egg has become a small shrub of oval leaves, smooth and waxy in appearance with traces of pale fine veins running in segments from top to bottom. Pillowed amongst the leaves are clusters of half-dozen tiny blooms, white and creamy five-point stars in a generous speckling all over in sharp contrast.
Sire: Juppi
Dam: Ashira
Creator: S'tao. Many thanks for an awesome little bronze!
Description: Dainty pastel hide contains a soft and sensitive creature within. Neckridges are splashed lilac, spreading to color plump headknobs and right side of an equally blunt muzzle. On the opposite side of his thick neck, reoccurring color cascades down to taper atop right paw. Dual-hued head is kept low in case it might offend, wide expressive eyes forcing eyeridges into a gentle downwards slant. When not demurely tucked away, delicate wings are sized just right for use. Sails are decidedly opaque, the usual transparency breaking through in gentle arches that prompt one to think of feathers. Three marks flutter on each side of rounded haunches that lead into a surprisingly long tail. The lavender expanse is such that it takes some time for the thick appendage to taper into a curled tip.
Egg: Bloodthirsty Rampage Egg
Egg Desc: Crimson stained shell glitters bright with spilled sanguine, bared ivories coated in stringy spittle, fangs guiltless of their crime. Rough orange pelt is matted with caked gore, ropes of entrails twisting around the oval, ribbons fastened around this morbid gift. Talons unsheathed, dangerous points creep up along the edges of this egg, refusing to relinquish it's greedy clutches.
Sire: Squirt
Dam: Ibliss
Creator: Klohi He's so adorable I absolutely love him!

Roonie | Father |
Ellie | Mother |
Ro'z (Rolzer) | Brother |
Marsilikos | Foster Brother |
Royce hails from a small fishing Cothold (aptly named Fantail Bayou) on the northern portion of Ista Island. Her father, called Roonie by all those who know him well, runs a small fishing trade, while her mother, Ellie, dabbles in ale-making (think a kind of Pernese moonshine). As Royce would surely tell you, her mother's ale is the strongest on the island, and has been known to best even the highest of tolerances in only a few sips. Having been raised in such a boisterous environment, and invariably lacking most female influences, save for her mother, Royce has developed her own somewhat archaic notions of the female role in society.
Royce's older brother, now Ro'z, an NPC brownrider at Ista Weyr, was first to leave their settlement, searched by a passerby dragonrider who perhaps had too much of Ellie's ale before asking the boy to stand. The idea for her to follow Ro'z to the weyr was formulated by her parents, noticing how drunken attentions were beginning to be paid to their now womanly-figured daughter, and by Marsilikos, her foster-brother and stalwart protector.
Thus, the two came together to the now dark weyr of Ista, and Royce still struggles to find a place there, having previously only helped around the Cothold and served part time for her mother.
Royce has a very thick accent, born from a hybridization of her father's Bitran roots and her mother's own Istan slang. She is very naive to the ways of the world, especially of the weyr, but doesn't seem to mind her ignorance, curiosity one of her main vices, as she watches those around her. She talks up a storm, whether to attempt to hide her own shyness or simply out of habit.

Darius' Page
Background
Born in the weyr to a mother working in the lower caverns and a rider father; neither were truly deeply involved in Darius' upbringing. His father was more concerned with weyr matters and his mother with her work in the kitchens, leaving his raising much to the lower caverns staff. Darius knows both of his parents, however, and they know him. While his father is somewhat disappointed Darius hasn't impressed yet, his mother, Rinata, seems content that he has a place in the weyr.
Maternal Half-Siblings
Orinlatan (Orin) who is about a year younger than Darius.
Ranita (Nita) who is six years younger than Darius.

All NPC — ask!
Darius is an Assistant Barkeep in the Klah Pot at Ista Weyr.
Description
A ragged mop of unruly black spikes of shoulder-length hair tops a lithe frame that is just too far on the skinny side for true health or comfort. Never easily tamed, Darius' hair thrusts out in all directions, as though combing it is far too much effort on behalf of his looks. Deepest blue eyes gaze from beneath lashes too long and dark to be strictly masculine, immediate evidence of his mischievous personality at first glance. A single braid starts to the left of his forehead and gathers up all the hair over his face to dangle down the right side of Darius' face to keep long lengths out of his eyes. Perhaps most striking about Darius is his height, easily reaching 6'4" in his bare feet.
Never quite perfectly groomed, Darius' clothes are always a little wrinkled, a little untucked here and there as though he was interrupted in the middle of getting dressed. A slouchy black shirt covers servicable black trousers that tuck sloppily into big black wherhide boots. Holding it all down is a simple brown vest that is often left open, or buttoned incorrectly, giving it a lopsided look.

Lyanisra was born at Telgar Hold, the daughter of a very wealthy set of parents; her father a master jeweler, her mother the Headwoman. A little girl with a silver spoon in hand, she spent time with the Blooded and intermingled comfortably with those of wealth /and/ rank, not just wealth. Her childhood was full of simple, pure delights; her true goal in life at the time was the same as her parents' was for her. To properly marry into the Blood, of course. Lyanisra was /certain/ she would be a Lady Holder someday, if, perhaps, not of Telgar.
By the time she was fourteen, though, she was bored with this plan. Her father had shown her the Smith Hall many a time, and she over the years became more and more fascinated with glasscrafting. On seemingly a whim she apprenticed; it turned out, after her acceptance, that she had a great gift for glassblowing indeed. On the fast track to promotion, or so she hoped, she completely forgot about her hopes and dreams of marriage. While she was still a bit of a snob, glassblowing had all of her focus.
Life at the Hall was good for Lyanisra. She made senior apprentice, and right around then found herself falling right into her old life plan: she fell in love with a minor Lord's son, and he with her. While they did not wed, they made teenage promises of staying together forever — promises that lasted until about two weeks after Lyanisra was made Journeyman at 21. Her lover was Searched for Telgar's recent clutch, and he agreed on one condition: Lyanisra come along, too.
Begrudgingly, she did. She thought she would do anything for love, after all. And she didn't think either of them would Impress. As it turned out, she was wrong, and so had the Search dragon been, for while her boyfriend was left standing, Art Lover's Holiday Green Mahuizoth found her lifemate on those sands and turned Journeyman Lyanisra into Weyrling Sra.
Her weyrlinghood was anything but uneventful. Mahuizoth was wild and difficult to control; she loved Sra and always wanted to make her happy, but it was a difficult bond, as 'the rules' were not something Mahuizoth was all that interested in, and if Sra advised against something, the green would often ignore her, citing 'fun.' Nevertheless they graduated, and somehow despite this tendency to be intractable in personality and action, when it came to proper Weyr duties, Mahuizoth was perfect. They were tapped and lived quite well as a wingriding pair; when Sra was twenty-seven and Mahuizoth six, they were promoted to Weyrlingmaster's assistants, and second-in-command for training the latest clutches.
This job suited Sra just as well as glassblowing — though that was something she had never stopped doing, frequently visiting the hall and making pieces as gifts or for herself. (The fact that she stopped selling works certainly bothered some of her fans!) Shortly after her thirtieth turnday, though, trouble hit the two: Sra came down with pneumonia and Mahuizoth decided to rise at about the same time. The flight resulted in an injury to the impetuous dragon on top of her rider's illness. Healers advised a departure from the harsh weather of Telgar, and Sra put in a request to transfer to Ista Weyr.
